Homes in the Hollywood Hills, Laurel Canyon, Los Feliz and Silver Lake are often built into a slope, with a carport or garage at street level and living space several floors below or above it. Roads are narrow, lots are small and steep, and the view side of the house is mostly glass.
Those conditions change the plan. A camera that watches the street may need a pole, a signal that works in the living room may not reach the bedroom floor below, and every extra foot of cable climbs or descends a retaining wall. We scope all of that during the walkthrough so the estimate matches what the job takes.
Hollywood Hills, Laurel Canyon, Los Feliz and Silver Lake
Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Mulholland Drive frame the Hollywood Hills, and the roads off them, like Lookout Mountain Avenue and Wonderland Avenue, are narrow, with houses on one side and a drop on the other. Some houses here sit on stilts or cantilever out over the slope.
In Los Feliz, Hillhurst Avenue and Vermont Avenue carry the shops and restaurants, and the streets rising toward Griffith Park have large 1920s houses and hillside homes. Hollywood itself is more apartment buildings, small offices and older bungalows around Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard.
Silver Lake wraps around its reservoir. It has many mid-century modern houses, including some by architects like Richard Neutra and John Lautner, with big windows and open plans. Some hillside streets end in public stairways, which matters when equipment and cable have to be carried to the house.
What we plan for in Hollywood Hills
Houses on several levels
Wi-Fi does not travel well through a concrete floor or a retaining wall. We put an access point on each level and connect them with cable back to a central switch, instead of relying on one device to reach down a hillside.
Street-level cameras and poles
The street is often far above or below the front door. Cameras on the entry stairs, the carport and the approach cover what a camera by the door cannot see. Where there is no mounting surface, a metal post can hold the camera.
Glass, decks and outdoor living
Large glazing and wide decks make outdoor Wi-Fi worth planning. Weather-rated access points cover decks and pools, and cameras can watch rear slopes and fence lines where the property is open.
Spotty cell signal
Cell reception in canyons can be uneven. Wi-Fi calling relies on solid indoor Wi-Fi, so coverage in the bedrooms and the office matters. A site survey shows you where the signal is weakest.
Typical UniFi jobs in Hollywood Hills
A house on stilts
These often have an open underside or exposed framing where outdoor-rated cable can run to reach each level. We seal every point where the cable meets the structure, and put an access point on every floor.
A house far above or below the street
A camera at the top of the entry stairs, one at the bottom, and an UniFi Access intercom at the street-level entry, so you can see and talk to a visitor before you walk up or down.
A mid-century house with large windows
Access points mounted on ceilings and in hallways, away from the glass, wired back to a rack in a closet. Outdoor units cover the deck.
Services we offer in Hollywood Hills
UniFi is our main focus. We also service other systems already in place.
Wi-Fi installation
One access point per level, plus outdoor units for decks and pools, all connected back to a single rack.
Security cameras
Cameras for the street approach, steps, carport and rear slopes, recording to a device you own.
Structured cabling
Runs up and down the structure, CAT6A to access points and wall jacks and CAT6 to cameras.
Wi-Fi site survey
A measured look at where Wi-Fi works and where it does not on a multi-level house.
Starlink installation
Starlink as an option when cable internet is slow or not available at a particular address.

Usually, with the right location. We walk the property to find a spot with a clear view, and sometimes that means a post at the street edge instead of a mount on the house.
Floors and retaining walls absorb signal. Adding an access point on that level, wired back to your network, usually fixes it better than a repeater.
Yes. We serve those neighborhoods along with the Hollywood Hills and Laurel Canyon, and you can request an estimate.
Yes. We ask about parking and access during the walkthrough, plan the carry for equipment and cable, and check where our truck can park on narrow canyon streets.
