UniFi, Cameras and Cabling in Downtown LA
Converted lofts, glass towers and old warehouses full of studios: downtown buildings are mostly concrete, and that decides how we run cable.

Downtown Los Angeles packs very different buildings into a small area. The Historic Core has 1920s office towers and theaters turned into lofts, the Arts District has brick and concrete warehouses, and South Park and Bunker Hill have newer residential and office towers.
Concrete floors, concrete walls and shared building systems change the work. We plan around what the building allows, get management on board early, and leave a UniFi system the next person can understand. We can send a certificate of insurance for building management.
Historic Core, Arts District, South Park and Bunker Hill
Spring Street and Main Street in the Historic Core have 1920s bank and office buildings, many now lofts and apartments with shops at street level. Broadway has old movie palaces with floors of offices above them. The interiors are tall and open, with thick walls and old riser shafts.
The Arts District lies east along Alameda Street and Santa Fe Avenue. It has brick and concrete warehouses turned into studios, offices, restaurants and live-work lofts, with newer apartment buildings around Mateo Street and Traction Avenue.
South Park and Bunker Hill are where the glass towers stand. Figueroa Street and Grand Avenue carry the condo buildings and hotels near L.A. Live, and Flower Street and Hope Street have the offices. Towers come with front desks, riser closets and house rules, and moving equipment in means booking the freight elevator.
What we plan for in Downtown Los Angeles
Loft conversions
Old warehouses and office buildings have concrete ceilings and brick walls, so there is rarely a place to hide cable. Surface raceway painted to match is often the cleanest answer, and we lay it out along beams and corners.
High-rise condos
Concrete floors in towers can contain post-tension cables, so nobody should drill or core without building approval and a scan. Work usually stays inside the unit, using closets, baseboards and any conduit already there.
Wi-Fi in a crowded building
Dozens of neighbors' networks compete for the same channels, and concrete walls block signal between rooms. A few access points sized and placed for the unit work better than one strong router in a corner.
Ground-floor shops and studios
Shops, galleries, studios and offices at street level need a camera on the entrance, a reader for staff and a network that works through thick walls. Front windows and roll-up doors are the weak points, so they get coverage first.
Typical UniFi jobs in Downtown Los Angeles
A loft in a converted Historic Core building
A UniFi gateway and switch in a closet, two access points placed to get through concrete, and a camera on the entry door. Cable runs in raceway along the ceiling edge, CAT6A to the access points and CAT6 to the camera.
A studio or office in the Arts District
High access points over the open floor, a reader on the street door, and cameras on the roll-up door and the alley side. Equipment lives in one wall rack, labeled so the next tenant can read it.
A condo in a South Park tower
One access point is rarely enough through concrete, so we plan one per zone of the unit, all wired back to a small switch in the closet. Management approval and elevator time are arranged first.
Services we offer in Downtown Los Angeles
UniFi is our main focus. We also service other systems already in place.
Security cameras
Cameras on entry doors, alley doors, balconies and storefronts, recorded to a UniFi recorder you own.
Wi-Fi installation
Access points placed room by room in concrete buildings, not just one in the middle.
Structured cabling
Raceway and existing conduit for runs, CAT6A to access points and data drops, CAT6 to cameras, labeled at the patch panel.
Access control
Intercoms, readers and keypads on studio, office and suite doors, managed from one UniFi Access app.
Wi-Fi site survey
An Ekahau survey for lofts and offices where a concrete shell makes coverage hard to guess.

In most condo towers and managed lofts, yes. Management often wants the plan, a certificate of insurance and a time slot on the freight elevator. We send the paperwork and schedule around the building's work hours.
Mostly, yes. We use surface raceway along the ceiling edge and baseboard, existing conduit and closets, and the odd short hole through a wall where it is allowed. We show the route at the walkthrough so you can approve it before work starts.
Yes. Those are often one large open room with high ceilings, so access points go up high and cameras cover the street door and the roll-up door. Request an estimate and we will walk the space.
Yes. Silver Lake and Los Feliz have their own page, and one visit plan works anywhere in LA Metro.
