Malibu properties range from beach houses and bluff homes to large canyon lots with guest houses, studios and long driveways. Internet service varies a lot from one address to the next, and not every property has a good wired option.
We start with the internet connection and the power, because the rest of the system depends on them. Then we plan how the buildings connect, where the cameras go and what needs to stay up when the line or the power does not.
Malibu, from Pacific Coast Highway to the canyons
Pacific Coast Highway runs the length of Malibu, with beach houses on one side and canyons on the other. Roads like Malibu Canyon Road, Kanan Dume Road and Latigo Canyon Road climb to ranch-style properties and long private driveways.
Along the water, places like Carbon Beach, Broad Beach and Point Dume have houses close together on narrow lots, with ocean-facing glass and an exposed rear side. Malibu Colony is a gated community, which usually adds its own approval steps.
Power can go out during high wind and fire weather, and some canyon addresses sit far from good cable internet. That makes backup power and a second internet source a normal part of the plan here. If you are rebuilding, the time to decide where network cable goes is before the walls close.
What we plan for in Malibu
Internet options and backup
Where cable internet is slow or unreliable, Starlink can be the main or backup connection. UniFi equipment can fail over between two internet sources so the house stays online.
Power outages
Outages do happen in remote areas. A battery backup on the rack and the recorder keeps the network, cameras and door control running through a short outage so you are not left without alarms and door control.
Salt air and wind
Beachfront and bluff locations are hard on hardware. We use outdoor rated equipment, sealed connections and secure mounts, and keep sensitive electronics indoors.
Long runs and outbuildings
Canyon properties can have a guest house or studio far from the main house, and a gate far from the road. Fiber and conduit take care of the distance, and each building gets its own access point.
Typical UniFi jobs in Malibu
A beach house with ocean-facing glass
Access points inside, away from the glass, and an outdoor access point on the deck, with weather-rated cameras on the street side and the beach side.
A canyon property with a guest house and a studio
Fiber or conduit to each building, an access point in each, a gate camera, and a battery backup on the rack, recorder and switch.
A rebuild
A pre-wire plan for your builder before drywall: CAT6A for access points and data drops, CAT6 for cameras, and a rack location chosen up front.
Services we offer in Malibu
UniFi is our main focus. We also service other systems already in place.
Starlink installation
Dish mounting, routing and UniFi failover so a backup link takes over automatically.
Structured cabling
Conduit and cable pathways, CAT6A to access points and wall jacks, CAT6 to cameras.

Yes. With a UniFi gateway that supports two internet connections, the network can switch to the second one if the first fails.
With a battery backup on the recorder, network switch and powered cameras, yes, for as long as the battery lasts. We size it to your needs.
Yes. We serve Malibu, including canyon and coastal properties, and you can request an estimate. Long drives and outbuildings are scoped during the walkthrough.
It depends on how much sky the dish can see. Steep canyon walls can block part of it, so we check from the roof or the yard first. If the view is poor, we look at a pole mount on higher ground at the property or a different main connection.
