UniFi Installer in Granada Hills and the North Valley

Big yards, block walls and long hot summers: the north end of the Valley is spread out, and cameras and Wi-Fi have a lot of ground to cover.

Gbit Tech UniFi installation
Low voltage in Granada Hills and North Valley

The north end of the San Fernando Valley takes in Granada Hills, Northridge, Porter Ranch and Chatsworth. It runs from flat grids of ranch-house streets up to the foothills of the Santa Susana Mountains, and the buildings change a lot along the way.

Houses here tend to be single-story with large back yards and pools, so outdoor coverage matters as much as indoor. Businesses cluster along Nordhoff Street and in the industrial streets of Chatsworth. In both we sort out the cable paths first, then build the UniFi network, cameras and door control on top of them.

On the ground

Granada Hills, Northridge, Porter Ranch and Chatsworth

Granada Hills is mostly 1950s to 1970s ranch houses on regular lots, with Balboa Boulevard and Chatsworth Street as the main commercial streets. The land climbs gently toward the northern foothills, where lots get bigger and some yards slope.

Northridge is larger and more mixed. Reseda Boulevard and Nordhoff Street run past the CSUN campus, the Northridge Fashion Center and many apartment complexes, with quiet single-family streets beyond them. Porter Ranch sits north of the 118 freeway with newer two-story houses, and Rinaldi Street and Tampa Avenue serve its shopping and schools.

Chatsworth has two sides. Around Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Devonshire Street there are older houses, horse properties and the rocky hills of Chatsworth Park. On the flat streets near the railroad tracks and Plummer Street the buildings are industrial: warehouses, machine shops and offices with high ceilings.

01 / WHAT PROPERTIES HERE NEED

What we plan for in Granada Hills and North Valley

01

Ranch houses with pools and block walls

Single-story houses on wide lots usually have a pool, a block wall and a lot of yard to watch. Cameras on the eaves and corners cover the whole yard, and an outdoor access point reaches the pool area. Attic runs are quick on a single floor, though the heat up there is hard on equipment, so the rack goes in the garage.

02

Newer tract homes and HOA streets

Porter Ranch was largely developed from the late 1990s on, with two-story houses, tile roofs and HOA rules about visible equipment. We read the rules before we drill, and we hide cable in walls and soffits.

03

Apartments and student housing

Northridge has many apartment complexes, a lot of them near the CSUN campus. Property managers usually want Wi-Fi in the common areas, cameras at the entrances and parking, and readers on the leasing office and mailroom.

04

Industrial buildings in Chatsworth

Chatsworth's industrial streets have tilt-up concrete buildings with high ceilings and big roll-up doors. Access points go up high, cameras cover the docks and lots, and fiber can tie a second building to the first across the yard.

02 / TYPICAL JOBS

Typical UniFi jobs in Granada Hills and North Valley

01

A ranch house with a pool in Granada Hills

Three cameras around the yard, one access point inside and one outside by the pool, and a small rack in the garage. The runs go through the attic, CAT6 to the cameras and CAT6A to the access points.

02

An apartment building near CSUN

Access points in the halls and laundry room, cameras at the entrances and the parking area, and a reader on the leasing office and mailroom doors. Cable paths are agreed with the property manager first.

03

A machine shop or warehouse in Chatsworth

A high-mounted access point over the floor, cameras on the roll-up doors and the yard, and a reader on the staff entrance. One rack in the office ties it together.

FAQ
Do you cover Porter Ranch and Chatsworth?

Yes, along with Granada Hills and Northridge. All of LA Metro is our service area, and the north end of the Valley is a straight drive from our Sherman Oaks base.

Can cameras cover a whole back yard with a pool?

Usually, with two or three cameras on the corners of the house, aimed so their views overlap. We point them at your own property and keep them off the neighbor's yard.

My HOA in Porter Ranch has rules about exterior equipment. Is that a problem?

Not usually. Cameras are small and can sit under the eaves. Send us the HOA rules, if you have them, and we plan around them.

Can you work in a house that was repaired after the 1994 Northridge earthquake?

Yes. Many homes in Northridge and Granada Hills were repaired or rebuilt then, and the walls can hide old cable, new framing or both. We check the walls and attic before choosing a path.
