The network, as a list

The same sample network for screen readers and anyone who prefers text. It updates as you build.

  • Gateway: Gateway
    • Switch 1: Switch, 2 of 4 ports in use
      • WiFi 1: WiFi

What you are practicing

A gateway connects the network to the internet. A switch gives wired devices a port to plug into, and it uses one of its own ports to connect up to the gateway. Cameras, access points and door hubs each need a port. When a switch has none free, you can add a switch or use a bigger one.

Port counts on this page are sample numbers for the exercise. They are not the spec of any real switch or gateway.

Questions

What does this lab teach?

How a UniFi network hangs together: the gateway connects to the internet, switches fan out to devices, and every wired device needs one free switch port. You add devices and see what runs out first.

What is the Tree and Lot switch?

Two views of the same network. Tree shows how devices connect, like a family tree. Lot shows where they sit on a house and garage plan. Your selection and fixes stay the same when you switch.

Is this a real network?

No. It is a sample board with sample port counts to show the idea. Nothing here is a quote or a spec for a real switch or gateway.
