How Sight works
1. Enter your address. Sight loads your home from above, with the building outline already drawn. If the outline is missing or out of date, you can tap its corners to draw it.
2. Place what you want. Camera is picked first: tap where you'd like one, then drag to aim it. Walls and nearby buildings block the view the way they would in real life. Pick WiFi, Door, Gate or Alarm in the row above the map to place those too.
3. Tell us how cable can get there. You can pick attic or crawl space, outside walls, already wired, or not sure. Each camera, access point, door and gate gets its own run.
4. Check a few details. If you placed doors or alarm sensors, one short card asks what the map can't show, already filled in with the usual answer.
5. See your ballpark. You get one result for everything you placed. The real estimate comes after we walk the property with you.
Before you sketch
What does it cost?
The sketch and the ballpark are free. The ballpark is not a quote, and the walkthrough sets the price.
What happens to my address?
It is used only to build your sketch and to follow up if you ask us to. We do not sell it.
How accurate is it?
It is a ballpark for your project, equipment and install. We confirm the details, including camera positions and cable runs, on a walkthrough.
Do I need an account?
No. Enter an address and start sketching.
Sight questions
Is the Sight number a quote?
No. Sight gives you a ballpark for equipment and install before anyone visits, and we confirm camera positions, cable runs and the final number on a walkthrough. When you're ready, Request an estimate and we'll set up the walkthrough.
What makes the Sight ballpark go up or down?
The biggest factors are the cable path, the property type (home, estate, business or multi-unit), long cable runs and the number of stories. A two-story house means harder pulls than a single story. A business or multi-unit building usually needs more labor and pathway work than a house with the same number of cameras.
What are the cable path options in Sight?
There are four: attic or crawl space (cable hidden inside, the typical retrofit), outside walls with conduit (no usable attic, so more boxes and more time), already wired (the drops are in, and we connect and power them), and not sure. Pick not sure if you don't know, and we'll choose the path on the walkthrough.
Why is my range wider when I pick "Not sure"?
Without a known cable path, Sight has to allow for both the easy way in and the hard way, so the range stays wider. Once we see the attic, walls and runs on the walkthrough, the range narrows.
What happens with very long cable runs?
Sight estimates the cable a typical layout like yours needs and builds it into the ballpark. A long pull takes more time than a short one, and it gets harder if the cable has to run outside. Ethernet tops out at about 100 meters (328 feet), so a very long run may need a PoE switch closer to the camera or a fiber link. We measure and plan that on the walkthrough.
What can I place in Sight, and how does it size the recorder?
You place cameras on a satellite view of your home and aim each one to see what it covers. Sight then shows the UniFi recorder and drives we would use for your cameras, sized for 30 days of 24/7 recording from the same catalog as our Storage page. We plan WiFi, door access and alarm points with you on the walkthrough.
