Multi-Tenant DoorKing Intercom Replaced with UniFi Access
A multi-tenant building in Greater LA had an analog DoorKing intercom that rang each resident's phone line. With landlines fading out, Gbit Tech replaced it with a UniFi Access intercom that calls a regular phone number, so tenants keep the same flow and need no app accounts.

A multi-tenant building in Greater Los Angeles had an analog DoorKing telephone entry unit in a stainless steel pedestal at its entry. When a visitor called a resident, the DoorKing rang that resident's phone line.
Landlines are fading out, so the building needed a replacement. Management did not want to give every tenant an account on the UniFi platform or an app to install, and the residents were used to the old flow.
We primarily focus on UniFi, and we also service other systems when a property needs it.
What stood in the way.
- An analog intercom that depended on phone lines that are being phased out.
- Many tenants, and management did not want to hand each one platform access or an app account.
- A visitor and resident flow that people already knew and that should not change.
- A stainless steel pedestal built around the old unit, with the old wiring still inside.
How we solved it.
We took the DoorKing unit out of the pedestal, pulled new cable into it and set a UniFi Access intercom flush in the opening. The UniFi Access hub went in a wall-mounted enclosure fed by conduit.
The key was the UniFi Access feature that lets the intercom call a regular phone number. Each tenant is reached on their own phone, just like with the old system. A visitor calls from the intercom, the tenant gets a normal phone call, talks to the visitor and grants the guest access from the call. Tenants need no app and no UniFi account.

What changed.
The visitor to resident flow works the way it did before: a visitor calls, the tenant's phone rings, and the tenant lets the guest in. The building no longer depends on analog phone lines, and management did not have to give tenants platform access.
There is an added benefit. The intercom's camera records footage of the entry in the background, so the building has video of who came to the door.
What went in
- UniFi Access intercomflush in the existing stainless steel pedestal, with a keypad and a camera
- UniFi Access hubin a wall-mounted enclosure fed by conduit
- New cablepulled to the pedestal for the intercom
