UniFi Lab 16
Door sensor and exit button
An office back door. The lock is wired right. Now the two inputs: the door sensor has to tell Access the truth, and the exit button has to let people out.
Your job: a shut, locked door reads Locked with no siren, and the exit button unlocks it.
This run: Break A. Door Position is set to Close active (NO), but the door sensor is NC.
Lab complete. Shut and locked reads Locked, no siren. The exit button unlocks, the door reads Open, then Locked again.

Why this fails
Door sensor trigger level backwards
If a locked, shut door shows Unauthorized Opening, check the trigger level before you blame the sensor.
Fix: in Devices, Door Hub, Terminal, Door Position, set the trigger level to Open active (NC). Status goes to Locked, siren stops.
Door sensor
A door sensor is just a contact. NC means closed when the door is shut. Match the trigger level to the sensor: open active (NC) for most.
Glossary
- Door position sensor (DPS)
- A contact on the door and frame that tells the hub whether the door is open or closed.
- Request to exit (REX)
- A button, motion sensor, or panic bar that unlocks the door from the inside without a credential.
- Trigger level
- Which contact state counts as active. Open active (NC) or close active (NO).
- Unauthorized Opening
- Access status when the door opens while it's locked.
- Free egress
- Leaving without badging out.

Takeaway
Door reads true, exit worksMatch the trigger level to the sensor. Set the button to Unlock Door.
A door sensor is just a contact, and the exit button is just an input. Access only knows what the trigger level and the mode tell it.
- Check the sensor type. Most door sensors are NC: closed when the door is shut.
- Set Door Position to Open active (NC) for an NC sensor. A shut, locked door then reads Locked.
- Set Button mode to Unlock Door for the exit button. Ring/Trigger Chime only rings.
- Keep a push-to-exit button as the manual override, even with a motion sensor.
