Gbit Tech was brought in early for a major renovation and home addition project on an existing two-story luxury residence in Greater Los Angeles.
The scope included opening walls, expanding living spaces, and adding new rooms creating the perfect opportunity to pre-wire the entire home for a modern UniFi ecosystem.
Starting during the rough-in phase while framing was exposed, we installed comprehensive structured cabling, security, and WiFi infrastructure that integrates seamlessly into the renovated design.
Challenges
Working within an active renovation site while coordinating around demolition, framing, drywall, and other trades.
Ensuring precise placement of data drops, camera locations, and access points in both existing and new addition areas.
Running two multi-mode fiber links for high-bandwidth needs across the expanded layout.
Achieving optimal WiFi coverage and camera sight lines in a large, multi-level home with high ceilings, open floor plans, and newly constructed spaces.
Solutions
During the rough-in phase with walls open, Gbit Tech installed:
12 CAT6 data drops positioned for wall-mounted TVs, office workstations, smart home controls, and entertainment areas
9 UniFi Protect camera runs pre-wired for G5 series domes, bullets, and PTZ units with PoE readiness
5 UniFi WiFi access point locations (U7 Pro series) strategically placed for seamless whole-home coverage and roaming
2 multi-mode fiber optic links (OM3) connecting the main equipment rack to secondary zones for 10G+ backbone performance
All cabling was carefully routed, labeled, and terminated as construction progressed, allowing drywall and finishes to close cleanly around service loops and low-voltage boxes.
Final UniFi equipment (Dream Machine, switches, NVR, access points, and cameras) was installed and configured once the renovation reached trim-out stage.
Results
The homeowner now has a fully modernized smart home with multi-gigabit wired connectivity, blanket WiFi 7 coverage with no dead zones, and comprehensive 4K UniFi Protect surveillance all unified under one intuitive, subscription-free platform.
Cameras and access points blend discreetly into the renovated architecture, while the centralized rack remains organized and easily accessible for future expansion. The early rough-in approach eliminated any visible surface wiring and ensured maximum performance from move-in day.
